Starting this year, training modules will be available for download at the WFSTAR website. A transition to a web-based only program for the Annual Fire Refresher is under way. However, this year's refresher will also be available in DVD form, in mid-March and one final time for the 2013 fire season.
It is important to note that an individual cannot go to this site, complete the fire refresher themselves and expect certification. An instructor must still present this information, as in the past, and account for and report the presence of each individual taking the course. This is the ONLY way to get credit for obtaining this annual certification.
The NWCG 2012 Annual Fireline Safety Refresher Training DVD is tentatively scheduled for release March 21, 2012. After 2013, Refresher training will no longer be available in DVD form.
The BIA, BLM, NPS, and USFWS will distribute 2012 video packages to their respective districts/field offices, agencies, refuges, or parks. Other agencies, as well as state and private entities (USFS, DNR, VFD, etc.) will need to order directly from Custom Recording and Sound at (208)344-3535 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Personnel conducting refreshers before the 2012 release date are encouraged to use pertinent modules from prior annual refreshers. These can be downloaded from the Module Toolbox on the WFSTAR website.
Instructors and Unit Leaders are encouraged to customize training to reach your target audience. Reference material may include the 2010 IRPG, Fireline Handbook and other agency specific material and are available for purchase through your local cache system.
Select and download training modules for a customized program to better align with your target audience. A fire refresher Module Toolbox is now organized into categories, such as "Case Studies" and "Aviation." Within those categories are related topics made up of new and old modules. Each module download includes a video, Student Workbook and Facilitator Guide.
