Weather

Above normal temperatures with low relative humidity will continue across much of the Great Lakes into the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic with moderate significant fire potential through the weekend. Scattered mainly wet thunderstorms will develop over northern and eastern New England late in the day and overnight with areas of wetting rain followed by cooler temperatures for much of the Northeast this weekend. Breezy and dry north winds are likely this weekend over portions of the Mid-Atlantic keeping fire potential low to moderate. Wet thunderstorms are also forecast for much of the Plains into the western Mississippi Valley through the weekend, with severe thunderstorms and heavy rain likely across the southern High Plains. Scattered thunderstorms will develop from the Sierra through the Great Basin into the Rockies with the most widespread storms, heaviest rain, and potential flooding across portions of Wyoming and central Montana today. Dry and locally breezy conditions will continue in the Southwest while above normal temperatures and low afternoon relative humidity below 20% are expected in the Inland Northwest and Idaho Panhandle. Below normal temperatures and showery conditions will continue for another day in Alaska with gradual drying and warming for the weekend.
